Yeah, there probably was. I recall there being mentioned that during an alpha/beta or something there was a marriage(anet staff). If someone could provide a link that would be nice.
As to the whole idea:
1)money sink is good
2) why not, sounds harmless and has amusement factor.
And to head off any possible MMORPG/Corpg fight which might erupt: This game will grow with its players. Whichever side they decide to lean to, it still has orpg in the title.
But that's just my 2 cents

1. Some of you really are grumpy guts! ;3;
2. GW is an MMORPG. (Thanks Sli, saved me checking the box. )
3. If anything without an ESSENTIAL use is pointless, throw away your computer games. It does nothing to augment your working life. Distraction from the grind is an idiotic luxury. According to you.
4. It's clear that many people come here DESPERATE to /notsign something.
About the Anet staff marriage: I know about that, but frankly, I've got no time to grace people who say "just act it out" with a reply. If that was nearly as engaging or cool, then people would be doing it already en masse.
I'm going to bed, but don't be sad!! Never fear!! I'll be back in about five hours to continue shooting down flimsy critiques.

Correction: Guild Wars is a CORPG like Diablo 2.

Oh darnit. Should have gone straight to bed huh? Orpg, and there's no need to check anything because I know that. xD
At any rate, someone said go play an MMO, and my response is that saying it's inappropriate to ask for GW marriage- regardless of whether it's MMORPG or Corpg- is absurd and not just a little idiotic so long as it's an RPG.
So yeah. Sleepy time.

I think its a nifty idea. But I can see the GWs divorce rate being extremely high. It would be cool for those who play along side their g/fs or b/fs and they want to unite.
Although that could cause alot of "pressure" on a real-life relationship:
Her: "How come you'l marry me in the game, but not in real life?"
Him: "Erm..... oh look is that the time?" *runs away*
What about sharing possession or stuff though as you do a real marriage. Who gets to spend the gold and who gets to buy the clothes?
/signed mostly
Im not keen on the idea of having a unique marriage island, as that is far too much work for Anet to be focusing on. Especially when they have other campaigns in the work.

Yeah, I'd be willing to abandon that. I've never played L2 myself, even though I know a little about its marriage system; I *have* however played RO, and I freely admit to pilfering the island from the server I used to frequent.
It's just hard to let go of the OTT stuff! xD
"Over the top" not referring to marriage or the addition of cool novelty items itself, because that is most certainly not over the top.

There was a long thread about this last year. It was quite amusing at some point, but overall the person who started the thread was very serious the marriage proposal.

In general I agree, it's kinda weird. Maybe ditch all the extra odd stuff, but the marriage idea itself isn't terrible from a use standpoint. Maybe combine storage as double the size so they can access the same stuff? Make it easier to pool resources for some with two accounts possibly as well as those who actually play with someone significant. It's just as valid as guild storage IMO.
/Signed minus the weird temple stuff and pointless other content.

Yes, this is a game and not a second life. Well observed. Sadly, you have failed in your aim if your intention was to provide a valid reason for your objection, since it's a statement that doesn't refer in any way to the idea.
I'll explain how it doesn't relate:
A game will remain a game and not a second life whether it includes marriage as a feature or not. Since this is true, your observation is correct, but irrelevant to the discussion.
I'd be happy to accept some competent critiquing, but I won't hesitate to defend against stuff like this; please don't mistake it for a flame.

I believe the person was refering to the game hence the capitals. I would rather ArenaNet work on gameplay than add features like this to be quite honest.

No.
Definately Not.
Some people use games to escape reality.
And then people try to bring it in to games as well?
I've mentioned my next point in a previous post, which i doubt you'd ever read amongst the endless posting here
Abaddon: I will slay ye mortal!
Hero: Never, i shall preva- oh damn it 6 o'clock, sorry Abaddon, I have to get dinner ready for with wife, very sorry. Tomorrow mabye?
Abaddon: Oh, yeh its fine, i mean hey not all of us are gods huh.
Hero: Hah ye-
No.

Also, what would happen if you don't like each other anymore? Divorce? Kinda sad imo.

Ah, the armada of self proclaimed Anti Nerds (preaching Anti Nerdism since BTX, yo!) bashing this idea. It's downright funny and was to be expected. Give a human a chance on bashing something and he will gladly jump and bash it into the ground, even if there is no reason for it.
As seen in this thread.
/signed on the idea of allowing marriage in the game.
Don't combine it with IG advantages of any kind (as in: if it becomes a title, don't let it count towards KOABD) though.
/edit:
And to all those "get a gf yo!" gangsters. I have one, sorry. Your flame meets 100% immunity but both, my GF and me liked this idea. I guess you must know a bit more about life to like this idea and not just bash it.

seriously, the drama llama's will be all over this one. there are no other elements of this type in the game, why should they add marriage?
